Rodent Control Questions and Answers

Short, plain answers to the questions people ask most about rats, mice and calling for help in Wichita.

Who will I talk to when I call?

Your call is connected with an independent pest control provider who takes calls for the Wichita area. Rodent Control Wichita is a referral service and does not do the work itself.

Do you serve my address?

It depends on the provider and your location. Call to confirm service at your address before you plan anything else.

How much does rodent control cost?

Prices are set by the provider and depend on the size of the home, how many rodents there are and whether sealing is needed. Ask what the price includes and whether follow-up visits cost extra.

How soon can someone come out?

There is no set response time. Call to ask about the next available visit at your address.

Do I have rats or mice?

Droppings are the easiest clue. Mouse droppings are about 1/8 to 1/4 inch long. Rat droppings are about 1/2 to 3/4 inch long. Burrows in the yard usually point to rats.

Why do mice keep coming back after I trap them?

If the gaps they used are still open, new mice can come in. Trapping works best when it is paired with sealing the entry points.

Is it safe to clean up droppings myself?

Do not sweep or vacuum them, since that can stir up germs. Wear rubber or plastic gloves, wet the droppings with household disinfectant and follow the label for contact time. Wipe up the waste with paper towels, put it in a covered trash can and disinfect the surface. Wash gloved hands before removing gloves, then wash your hands. Ask about professional cleanup for heavy contamination.

Is rodent bait safe around kids and pets?

Bait is poison. It should only be used in locked, tamper-resistant stations placed out of reach. Ask the provider how they keep bait away from children, pets and wildlife.

Can I fill holes with spray foam?

Rodents can chew through foam. Use hard materials like hardware cloth, sheet metal, mortar, or steel or copper mesh with sealant. Never seal furnace, water heater or dryer vents shut.

Is there a guarantee?

Any guarantee or warranty comes from the provider who does the work, not from this website. Ask about it on the call and get the terms in writing.
